What’s the first thing you would say to someone when they ask you to describe yourself as an artist?
That’s a tough question. If you’re talking about genre, we’re a mixture of Hip-Rop, Electronica, and Rock. Critics and kids have been comparing to Linkin Park, Beastie Boys, Hollywood Undead, and any other mixed-genre act they can think of. The topics we talk about in our songs are topics that nobody is discussing; at least not in a well-thought, intelligent way. Our attitude is similar to Punk music in the late ’70′s. We’re rebels. We’re loud mouths. We don’t give a f*ck and its been paying off in a major way.
How long have you been in the industry?
We’ve been making music since kids. Starting taking it seriously 4 years ago, toured through the US
non-stop, kept perfecting our sound, and now we’re about to make a serious impact in the music business. Lots of news coming. Can’t announce anything right now though.
What inspires your music?
Everything inspires our music, as you can clearly see. Growing up, our parents forced us to listen to Jazz and Big Band. The improvisational spirit of those artists gave us that ‘experimental’ angle. As teenagers, we’d go see our favorite rock bands perform in the city all the time, in the sh*ttiest little clubs. Our ability to rap well gave us the room to say more in our music. To literally say what we wanted to say and not caring about the consequences.
Where are you from?
We are from Long Island, NY. Right outside of New York City.
What artists in the industry inspire you the most today?
For awhile, we loved Drake. We were listening to him years ago, when he still sounded amateur. He always said what was on his mind. He always presented himself as an educated artist. Today, he’s mainstream. We still love him but he doesn’t have much to say anymore. Lately, we’ve been listening to Finch, The Cool Kids, Funeral For A Friend, Deftones, Conditions, Christine Sweeney,
and a tiny bit of John Mayer (but shhh, don’t tell anyone).
Why is that?
He’s a great artist but he’s built such a mainstream reputation with teenage girls, that we feel other artists would probably criticize us…..but f*ck it! We like him! He’s awesome! Deal with it! Ha ha.
What makes you different from other artist today?
Everything. Every single thing makes us different. Our sound, our style, our message, our attitude, our look, our individuality, our big mouths, and our ability to not give a f*ck about what people think. The fact that we’re “different” has made our careers taken longer to bloom but I think industry dudes are finally understanding what makes us a breathe of fresh air. Music has become so redundant and regurgitated. I think the industry is definitely ready to roll the dice on us. Our phone won’t stop ringing with big shots, wanting a meeting! Meanwhile, they were all afraid to take a chance on us last year.
What do you want your future fans to know about
you?
Our current fans listen to us because we aren’t just 1 genre. We don’t appeal to just 1 kind of person. Our future will fans will do the same. They’ll listen because we provide them with a “voice”. The willingness to say what nobody else has the balls to say. A voice of opposition in media and society. Our music is the equivalent to a political rally without the politics…..but we can still make perverted, sexual jokes and get away with it!
