HOW DID YOU START MAKING MUSIC?
L: I grew up in a very musical household. My whole family is inclined and my exposure to a plethora of styles at an early age made me love music even more. I was a ‘front-row’ church kid, always singing and leading a solo in choir (school and church). I was given an 8-track recorder at age 8 which is when I really started learning how to record and produce. My mother is a published poet, so songwriting was innate. As I matured, I studied deeper into world musics to broaden my ear and appreciation for all that music can offer.
WHERE ARE YOU FROM?
L: I was born in Oakland, California and also raised in Washington State. We moved to Elk Grove (Sacramento) during my last 2 years of high school. Ive spent the remainder of my life in Los Angeles and traveling the world, performing. I currently reside in Manhattan, New York.
GROWING UP, WHO’D YOU LISTEN TO?
L: Gospel music was the primary genre in my household ( Yolanda Adams, Kim Burrell, The Winans, etc) but Classical and Jazz were also in heavy rotation. I loved Al Jarreau, Nat King Cole, Bach, Anita Baker and so many more. I had an unknown obsession for Country and Alternative Rock.
WHAT SEASON IS YOUR FAVORITE SEASON AND WHERE’S YOUR “HAPPY PLACE”?
L: I am a sucker for Summer, although I’m highly sensitive to the sun. I hate rain and being cold so it was my only choice, hahaha. My ideal place to to escape is actually sitting in a hot tub or jacuzzi. Ever since I was little, I fell in love with submerging in the water and I was intrigued by the jets. When I went under to hold my breath, I heard so much noise underwater, but it was the most peaceful silence I’ve experienced. I got deep there, but that’s the truth.
WHAT INSPIRES YOU?
L: ‘Impact’ is what inspires me. I write primarily based on my experiences. I, however, focus on how my perspective can impact someone else’s life. Even if it’s a party song, it has to come from a relatable place so, hopefully, listeners feel the same good-time I did – I believe in doing things with purpose and conviction. If you don’t believe in the things you do or create, you can’t really offer much.
WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE CITY YOU’VE BEEN TO?
L: I really loved Sydney Australia and the island of Tortola in the Caribbean, simply beautiful places, from the culture to the environment. I must admit, nothing beats Los Angeles – it’s home! And out of all the places I’ve seen, nothing is like going home to friends and family.
WHAT DESTINATION IS ON YOUR BUCKET LIST?
L: It is imperative that I visit Dubai and Abu Dahbi before I croak. I developed a special appreciation for Middle Eastern culture and just seeing pictures and videos of those places really fascinate me.
WHAT ELSE DO YOU ENJOY?
L: Fashion is a great way for me to express myself, from my clothes to my hairstyle (which I’m consistently updating according to my mood – I’m reasonably impulsive, so there’s that). I am also a professional photographer which is another outlet where I can be creative. Recently, fitness has been my other favorite pastime and I must say the results, thus far, keep me motivated and wanting to encourage others to do the same!
WHAT’S COMING NEXT?
L: I am closing the year with another China tour, which is amazing because I felt so loved there and anytime I can be enveloped in a different culture for more than a week, I’m sold!
I’m releasing new music more frequently these days. I am finishing a holiday EP with AGO- Beats. I’m just released an EP produced by my brother Jerome ‘PRIVY’ Smoot, Jr called “Hollywood” while putting finishing touches on my LP “Famous” which I’m thrilled to share. I experienced a lot in the making of these projects and they’re completely different from my debut release “Feels Like a Dream”. I’m in a new era of life and I want to reflect that musically. I always want to be an artist that’s progressing with each project.
HOW CAN WE FOLLOW YOU ONLINE?
L: My social media handle is @LMARCOMUSIC on most outlets. I have a new fan page on instagram, @LMARCOFANS. I also have a new website www.lmarcomusic.com where you can sign up to my newsletter and receive an exclusive release and more before public releases. If all else fails, GOOGLE me I suppose.
