One on One Conversation with the creator of Pipsqueak was here!

What’s the motivation behind your most recent paintings?
The motivation is usually the same, most often it is a reaction to something that really bothers us. In other cases it is something we really want to remark upon, something we feel demanding attention. The way we humans tear up the natural world for personal gain for example.99unnamed

Growing up did you know you would get into art?
Not really, Willem always hoped to be a writer. Denise would turn out to be either a street musician or a jockey, the type that races horses.

Did you grow up with a favorite artist?
To Willem Rembrandt and Van Gogh were hot stuff, they had their own calendars, Denise was not aware of the possibility to have a favorite artist at the time.

What’s the biggest city you’ve been to?
This one I expect, NYC and after that London I suppose.

What’s your most favorite city to visit?
Any city has its’ charms, NYC is making quite an impact. I think we are too short here to judge. I always feel good in Paris and Berlin

What city do you have on your list to go to before you die?
I would love to see the madness of India one fine day, but Tokyo is definitely on the list.

What is a must have on set while you paint?
Paint by all means, but a good brew and some wild tunes with a bite suit us well. Good company scores high.

Any advice you would give a young painter looking to expand the arts?
The usual, follow your heart, stay true to yourself, embrace a commercial act to be able to expand your personal means of expression only when necessary. Do not be afraid to be inspired by others but avoid being a copycat. There is no use for artistic products that already exist.

How can we follow you online?, Instagram and Facebook are also an option. There is a plug in to both on our site.

Our main motivation to make art would be, an attempt to clarify that people are no enemy of nature but part of it. Therefore we should stop damaging and polluting it, as we are just making a toxic environment of our own feeding grounds. The other great part of being an artist is the messing about with paint and other materials trying to create new imagery as if you are still a child and to have eternal playtime and in our case a pleasant way to make a living. Being one artist, together also gives us a lot of quality time with each other. We have been partners for almost 30 years now and it is incredible to grow and work together in this job.

Lately we get to travel more and more with our work, which opens our horizon. We will be shown in Paris, France, Cologne, Germany and in the end of this year we will come back from Amsterdam to the USA. We’ll be part of Canvas in West Palm Beach and after that we are painting an Elementary school in Miami during the Art Miami Basel.
