We love photography that speaks to you. We love pictures that will automatically tell a story or give you some direction of what the photographer intended to accomplish. Bradford Photography graced our June 2012 issue. Now he’s coming back with a sweet editorial. Peep our exclusive interview below.
What can a model do to make you feel comfortable on a shoot?
I am a pretty laid back person in general, so I am typically comfortable simply because I am shooting. I am not the type of photographer that barks commands like a machine gun or yells a lot, unless it’s like really windy on set and I have to. The only time I feel uncomfortable while shooting is when I can see a model is not liking some aspect about the shoot. Weather it’s the pose, the makeup the wardrobe, whatever it is, it is hindering uss from getting ‘the shot.’ The last thing I want is for them to hide that aspect. I am not comfortable with a model at shoot until I know they are having fun. As the model, if you’re not having fun shooting with me, then I’m not doing something right. I am going to do as much as I can to make sure you are having fun.
Any favorite tools you can’t shoot without?
I shoot on location for the most part, so trailmix or Nature Valley bars are a must have. Those aren’t really tools though. Hmmm…well I’ve always believed in the maxim that the best tools are the tools you have on you. Every shoot is different so I am always changing my kit. YOU make the shot what it is, not your tools pretty much. However, if it can be had on a shoot the best tool is all-purpose tool, aka the trusty assistant, or at least simply someone who listens and lends an extra hand when needed to hold that reflector or flash, carry that extra bit of gear etc.
