Here we think if you’re trying you’re never failing. You always win when you try. There is no losing when you try.
Liukin closed her competitive career at the U.S. Olympic Gymnastics Team Trials in San Jose on Sunday night. Her fall on the uneven bars came early in the evening, earning a sub-par score of 13.950.
Liukin, the all-around medalist in the 2008 Beijing Games, finished 10th on the uneven bars and seventh on the beam during last weekend’s trials. Making this year’s U.S. team was an uphill battle from the beginning – no Olympic gymnastics champion has returned to the next games since Nadia Comaneci in 1980.
Despite a lackluster finish, Liukin received a standing ovation from the crowd and will go to London as the athlete representative for the Federation of International Gymnasts.
Liukin plans to attend NYU in January.
