ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) — LeBron James has set a Miami Heat record with a 23-point first quarter against the Orlando Magic.
James was 9 for 9 from the field in the opening period Thursday night, mostly on midrange jumpers, scoring all but seven of Miami’s points in the first 12 minutes. He also made five of six free-throw attempts.
Miami led 30-26 after the quarter.
Alonzo Mourning previously held the Heat’s first-quarter record, scoring 21 against Washington on March 29, 1996.
