Supa Emcee is a fierce whirlwind on a crash course to take over the industry. Equipped with venomous lyrics and a furious disposition Supa has been blessing mixtapes worldwide since 2007. The release of his new album “A Brother From Another Planet” has proved that Supa has the respect of some of the illest lyricist in the game and can hold his own. Supa Emcee has performed on stage with Layzie Bone and Keith Murray. Supa has opened up for Cassidy, Freeway, Paul Wall, Afro Man, Boss, Lady Luck and more. With a stage presence and swag that can’t be matched Supa Emcee is a artist you need to be familiar with.
What’s the first thing you would say to someone when they ask you to describe yourself as an artist?
The first thing I say to someone to describe myself is that “I am Hip Hop”. Hardcore hip hop to be exact. I am old school like when they used to have a message in the music. I represent a time when “keeping it real” meant just that and freestyle meant spit something you never wrote before. Supa Emcee is synonymous to lyrics and I practice the art of saying something that actually means something.
How long have you been in the industry?
I started rapping when 8 years old just freestyle’n to my Dad playing the drums with his band. After what feels like a lifetime of spit’n flows and being a avid music lover I decided to start my own label in 2006 called Vizual Dreamz ltd. I knew I had the skills to make my dreamz a reality so I felt the name of the label fit perfect. After continually catching wreck cipher after cipher the streets named me Supa Emcee and the rest is history.
What inspires your music?
Life inspires my music. Hip Hop is not just a art it is also a way of life. Translating my life experiences, events and observations into a structured format is a beautiful thing. The complexities of the world leave room for a wide variety of topics and ideas. Instead of trying to imitate someone elses craft or style just being myself is creative enough to spawn great ideas. That’s why you hear so much versatility in my music on this new album. I am not one dimensional and my music shouldn’t come across that way either.
Where are you from?
I rep O-H-I-O to the fullest. The Buckeye State. Columbus, Ohio is where it all goes down. Shout out to all the artists on the grind show’n that’s why we Still Here.
What artists in the industry inspire you the most today?
I am old school so I am not inspired by the artists of today. My goal is to create and expand the essence of Hip Hop. Most of todays artists are chasing fads and trends instead of creating them. Always trying to mimic cliche gimmicks in hopes of a hit single. Most of the music I listen to is from the 90′s or from a current album from a artist that came out in the 90′s. If you look at my cd I have tracks wit Keith Murray(1994), Sadat X(1989), Rock of Heltah Skeltah(1996), Planet Asia(1997), J Rawls(1998). Real recognize real and Supa Emcee is forever evolutionary.
What makes you different from other artist today?
I think that my content and lyrical ability make me different from other artist today. Writing rhymes based off my feelings and thoughts is goin to take you a different direction than writing about what I think you think is hot. My name isn’t the same name as somebody living or dead. It isn’t from a fictional character in your favorite movie played by your favorite actor. My music is a extension and representation of me so my cd is just a more in-depth interview of who Supa Emcee is.
What do you want your future fans to know about you?
I want my future fans to know Supa Emcee will never give you less than Supa. Hip Hop is a way of living and I will continue to move in full stride. My current cd “A Brother From Another Planet” is FREE(30 tracks of what you been missing) and is just the beginning. More music and videos are on the way and its because of all the support I get worldwide that I continue to put it down for my fans.
