Most people are independent individuals, so what is so special about a woman who is independent, let alone a black woman who is “independent”? Yes, all women need to be able to pay their bills and provide for themselves before they lean on a guy & visa versa. I’m so sick of that phrase I don’t know what to do, b/c it has become an anthem for “black”, or “single” women who have declared themselves without need of a man for ANY reason.

Women who keep their head, choose the right road and strive to do remarkable things & without looking back, are not ordinary but highly extraordinary. These types of women are strong not because of their back kick or their bite, but b/c of their strong will & determination to do what is right and what is smart.

These type of women are strong & Independent because they don’t need prideful ignorance, and things they know they can’t afford to fool themselves into believing that they are someone significant. They don’t need to strap on antlers and wrangle their their man/husbands to gain a sense of importance. They are strong, independent and have TRUE confidence w/in themselves that they can step back and let their man be in control w/o feeling like they have no control.

A strong, independent woman is not a woman with a built bank account, and a husband “kept in check”, beaten and destroyed by humiliation and constant drama. That is a selfish, patronizing, haughty, domineering, conceited, pompous WEAK black ____.
Not all black women are this way…most aren’t.

I think a balance was lost… It is great that women in general went on (years ago) to higher education, but a balance was shifted and deciding that as a group that good morals are outdated is what went wrong for women. I am NOT alone, I have a mate, I have a family, I have a daughter and I depend on all of them. Dependence is not necessarily monetary, it can be emotional and spiritual as well. Some women even perceive “being strong” as being tough, demanding, and disrespectful. These qualities are not what makes a women strong and they are not qualities that men find attractive. I find that many black women in the U.S. should find their way back to femininity and stop buying into the “independent woman” pop culture.

The idea of having a doll that is an adult is to help young girls explore what they would like to be when they are an adult. And for them to imagine being something other than a mother, which is about the only option with the more traditional baby dolls. That’s a great idea, its a shame its been messed up to some degree due to the way Barbie’s body is designed.
